When someone visits your website and leaves, it’s a good chance that they won’t come back. Why would they if there is no compelling reason to do so? You know we all act impulsively on the web – so much so that we can quickly forget what web pages we were on a few minutes ago!
Fact remains, your visitor may not come back to your website again. Ouch! If 1,000 people visit your website, leave and never come back just imagine the potential revenue opportunity lost. If you could have converted a fraction of those visitors into customers, you’d be doing better on your bottom line.
Sure, if you create unique content you can keep some of the visitors coming back, but very often, unique content is not the only solution. The real, long-term solution lies in converting your visitors into subscribers to your mailing list one way or another.
No matter how fabulous your content is or how visually appealing your site is your aim is to convert visitors into subscribers via a simple opt-in to your mailing list – before your visitor leaves your website. Easiest way is to ask! Ask for your visitor’s name and email address via an opt-in form. I’m amazed how many websites and blogs are still out there and do not ask for any contact at all. Lost opportunity.
When your visitor signs up to be on your mailing list, you can then follow up via email as often as you deem appropriate. In those emails you can get your subscriber to consider your offer, or promote an affiliate offer, keep them up to date with posts and news, educate them, entertain them, challenge them.
All in all, your main aim is to convert as many visitors into subscribers as possible and obtain the potential revenue you rightfully deserve.
So, as soon as you finish reading this:
1. check you have an opt in offer on each website or blog
2. make sure it’s working properly (don’t laugh!)
3. check you have emails going out for the next month
4. check your emails have at least one buy offer in them for the month
If you can’t tick all of those steps as already done, then you’ve got some work to do don’t you? Best get to it 🙂
Interesting that when I went to my blog this morning, my optin pop-up wasn’t working! 😀
Testing your website layout and marketing campaigns is what stands between you and no or low sales. You have to abandon what doesn’t work and use what does, regardless of how you feel about it. Numbers never lie. Favorite sites are not necessarily profitable sites.
Also, Google is now sending out alerts to websites that aren’t mobile responsive. 60% of visitors (and rising) use mobile devices now, so if your site isn’t mobile-ready, you’ll lose visitors, for sure.
Yup, it’s a constant check – recheck process. “Set and forget” is a myth as things do change. Glad you spotted your optin fail and fixed it! Thanks for visiting, Bradley.
It’s been a while since I checked all my optin places were working… It’s on the to-do list (along with updating the giveaways!)
Thanks for the reminder Mel
There are so many things to keep a check on aren’t there? Glad it was helpful for you, Jan 🙂
I’m bookmarking this since I’m seriously looking at setting up my email lists now. I know I keep saying that but life is just seriously not being nice right now. It will happen, and your tips are great.
Life does tend to get in the way, doesn’t it? I’m reminded of a saying that goes something like “what you focus on gets done”. When your can make room for list building and emailing, this may be useful for you – https://redhotinternetmarketing.com/blog/list-building/
