MYOB Business Basics and Windows 7

I’ve been really happy overall with my MYOB Business Basics.

It’s a slimmed down accounting package which has served me well and I know how to use it. I don’t want to have to learn another system or upgrade to a major accounting package which has more functionality than I need.

If I keep using Windows XP I have no problem I believe. There’s no tax tables to update and barring any major accounting law changes I’m set to stick with the combo of MYOB BB and Win XP.

The thing is I have a new laptop which runs Win 7 32 bit and I want to upgrade my desktop OS to Win 7. But MYOB BB won’t play with Win 7.

I had managed to speak to someone a few months ago when I first came up against the issue and was not onlyRead More »MYOB Business Basics and Windows 7

    Writing Your eBook Well

Writing an eBook can be daunting.

I know: I hesitated for some time. I used pre-written content for which had I had rights to break into writing my first ebook. It wasn’t wholly satisfying – I spent more time making it sound like me and getting the content right than it would have taken to have written one myself in the first place!

One thing that stopped me and others it seems is how to format an eBook and how to structure the all important call to action and ensure links back to you.

I like what John White has to say here:

“The about-page is rather busy and contains seven hyperlinks, but I tried to ensure that each of them would stand out at a glance:

      • a link to my online portfolio
      • a link to this blog
      • a SurveyMonkey link on which to harvest reader feedback
      • my e-mail address
      • a RetweetThis link
      • a link to my LinkedIn profile

      Email Marketing Tips for Autoresponders

email marketing, autoresponder messageWriting up a series (or even one!) email broadcasts can be challenging. What do I write? What do I say? etc etc.

Before you even start to write up your emails, ask yourself these three questions :

        1. Why am I writing anyway? What’s the purpose? What am I trying to achieve? Is it to have the reader click a link to something? To deliver content to the reader after they signed up for something? To build a relationship by following up on a conversation? Decide what your purpose in writing is and that will give you a clue as to where to start and finish. Oh, and always provide a link – to a sales page, a blog post, a website, a download or whatever. You want to train your readers to click on those links so make sure they are worthwhile.
        2. Who is your target reader? Who are you actually writing to?Read More »Email Marketing Tips for Autoresponders

          Tool of the Day

Improving website performance is not the top of the list for bloggers – we tend to focus more on content. Yet today I came across a site that not only gives an analysis of your site performance but gives great info on why you need to fix the areas falling short and even does some of the work for you – just cut and paste fixes to css, html and htaccess files. Definitely made an improvement to my site loading time on one of my blogs. Check it out – no affiliation – http://gtmetrix.com

            2013 – a Whole New Year

              Wow.

Did 2012 blitz past or what?

This is now the time of year we’re supposed to sit back, take stock, revel in our accomplishments and reflect on what could be better.

But who has time for that?!?

It’s just rush, rush, rush … at least at my house it is.

Yet it is necessary to review and plan ahead so we don’t end up next year in much the same place.

So, before the New Year hits, what one thing could you focus in this coming year to direct your efforts?

              For me, it’s actually FOCUS.

If I look back over 2012 I can see I started lots of projects but few are completed and making money. I can be easily distracted – by anything really, but especially checking email, surfing the web for even more information, getting caught up on forums, and switching between activities and projects.

So this year my one question I’ll keep asking myselfRead More »2013 – a Whole New Year
