Hosting Videos in WordPress

Hats off to Bruce Wedding from Mexico for some brutal, “just get it done” talk on a recent WF post:

Quit screwing around and get an Amazon S3 account. There’s no money down, no monthly commitment, just pay for what you use at DIRT cheap rates. I’d be surprised if your bill is more than $1 a month. After that, produce MP4 files, upload using the S3 Organizer Add-in for Firefox, set the ACL to everybody and copy the url to the clipboard. Install the JW Player plugin for your blog and use the shortcode: [jwplayer config=”myplayer” file=”myamazonurl.com/bucket/video.mp4″]
    Done.
If you want more protection, use S2Member and they have built in ways to really lockdown your videos making them impossible to share and very hard to download.

s3Can’t get much clearer than that!

Thanks Bruce. I had a similar issue about hosting videos offline when my government clients locked down access to YouTube. Now, I’m sorted.

    2013 – a Whole New Year

      Wow.

Did 2012 blitz past or what?

This is now the time of year we’re supposed to sit back, take stock, revel in our accomplishments and reflect on what could be better.

But who has time for that?!?

It’s just rush, rush, rush … at least at my house it is.

Yet it is necessary to review and plan ahead so we don’t end up next year in much the same place.

So, before the New Year hits, what one thing could you focus in this coming year to direct your efforts?

      For me, it’s actually FOCUS.

If I look back over 2012 I can see I started lots of projects but few are completed and making money. I can be easily distracted – by anything really, but especially checking email, surfing the web for even more information, getting caught up on forums, and switching between activities and projects.

So this year my one question I’ll keep asking myselfRead More »2013 – a Whole New Year

      Moving WordPress

It’s taken me ages today to fix a move of WordPress from my live site to my local host development site. Xampp installed beautifully; WordPress loaded like a charm; my database imported fine. Everything seemed to be working. Until I clicked a link. Then it redirected back to the live site. So, lots of research and help along the way: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_WordPress_to_a_New_Server http://www.billerickson.net/migrating-wordpress-websites/ It was that last site that tipped me on to searchandreplace.php. What a god-send! In just over 5 seconds, my database was cleaned of all references to the live site and now works perfectly as a local development… Read More »Moving WordPress

          Are You Testing Price Sensitivity?

Another recent tip from Ryan Deiss. He ad his team checked the price sensitivity of on of their products. They tested the product sales at $197 and at $97. They found that they had a 3 times better conversion at the lower price. More interestingly, they then tested $197 against 2 payments of $97. Again they found the payment plan outranked sales for the full price by a factor of 3! That’s pretty interesting stuff. So test your product pricing. If you’re offering $97 try two payment of $47 instead. If you;re charging $97, test another price point. In these… Read More »Are You Testing Price Sensitivity?
