How Much Do You Repurpose Content?

I’ve just been going through my files and found a bunch of product I had created … and forgot about!

IN thinking about my content I also realised I pretty much don’t follow my own advice, embarrassingly enough.

When I reflect on what I produce I use it maybe one o three times each in different platforms. Usually it will be a blog post and maybe I’ll then repurpose that as a tweet or a Facebook post and perhaps a graphic for Pinterest.

My reflection also made me realise I’d abandoned my editorial calendar and had taken to spontaneous posting both in terms of content and timing.

    Not clever.

    Not recommended.

    Dumb.

So, I am starting to think about Angel reinstituting my editorial calendar as well as building into it a repurposing checklist. Of course, I won’t just think about it, I will schedule in to do it … soon!

How To Be More Productive, Part 2

Last time, we talked about the 4 Things Theory and how to apply that. It’s based on the premise that if you focus on doing 4 specific things a day that move you forward then you will progress more easily.

There are, however, times when you need to do more than the 4 things. There are regular tasks that need to be done, like your annual tax return, that won’t go away and must be completed. Today we continue my notes from a talk by Helen Raptoplous.

      1. Take time to make a list of what you need to do consistently to move forward. Set up a schedule to make sure they get done.

          How NOT To Backlink

Getting backlinks is a key strategy for building traffic and search engine ranking.

There are tried and tested ways to get backlinks. One of these is to comment on blog posts.

Most people are responsible and do this in a diligent way. They choose quality websites ( the better the quality the better the backlink ‘weight’). They actually read the blog post. Then they give a related comment that contributes to the post and hence the community.

I get tons of comments, but most of them are spam and get caught in my detectors. Here’s one that I thought worthy of using as an example because it was a bit different to the rest:

It’s so hard to get backlinks these days, honestly i need a backlink by comments on your blog / forums or guestbook to make my website appear in search engine. I am getting desperate Now! I know you’ll laugh while readingRead More »How NOT To Backlink

            Are you using copyright-free content?

An exploding issue in the online world is the use of material which is protected. All original material is protected by copyright law.  Yet people fail to pay heed to that and blindly re-use information and images.

Similarly, if you are repurposing content written by others for which you have rights to use, you need to make sure that it is not a blind copy, or face the consequences from search engines who will either slap you or not reward you for lack of originality.

Here is a list of tools which can help you with both of these scenarios. Most if not all cost nothing to use.
