DropBox – Store files in the cloud

I love dropbox. I use my 2gb free account to automatically load my website backups so I always have the latest copy available if things go wrong. I also use it’s public folder feature to make certain documents accessible to clients which they can then easily download. Apart from simply storing data and files or photos, here are a few other ideas; https://zapier.com/blog/dropbox-hidden-features/ or try these or even these. I reckon Dropbox is brilliant. It’s easy, smart and keeps me sane! Get Dropbox for yourself – it’s absolutely (2gb) free!

        Take Control of Your Content

One of the big issues I’ve had with owning sites and blogs is continually adding content and keeping it fresh.

First I’d create my own posts but my publishing was quite erratic. I’d post a few things one day then nothing for a few days and then eventually nothing for weeks on end. My blog effectively ‘died’.

I then tried a few different automated content fillers. Ones where the tool would grab content from other sites and post it to my site. That worked in keeping fresh content coming to my blog. What I found though was the feeds were unreliable in terms of the type of information they would post.

Next I tried joining SEOLinkvine – you sign up, tell it the kind of topics you want articles on. Other people write articles on their topics and SEOLinkine basically matches what you want with what othersRead More »Take Control of Your Content

          Using Evernote

I haven’t used Evernote as much as I want but on my journey to optimising my cloud based road warrior scenario I found a few things that Evernote can be used for:

            1. capturing details of business cards – scan or grab image or note text details
            2. record receipts for expenses and tracking
            3. trap travel plans and itineraries, accommodation, maps etc
            4. books I want to read – one day!
            5. health insurance and medical reminders
            6. gift ideas I spot around
            7. client documents i might need
            8. pdf books I may want to read in ‘dead’ time eg at airports
            9. projects I’m working on and research I find related to them
            10. official documents eg domain name registration dates etc

            CUSTOMISING WEBFOLIO THEME – 2

Webfolio is a free wordpress theme but it’s instructions aleave a little to be desired in parts. As I discover things I am writing them up here for others to benefit.

The Slider on the Front page

Firstly, make sure you have the right features turned on. In WordPress go over to the top right of your screen and you’ll see “Screen Options”.  Make sure you have “Featured Image”, “Excerpt” and Custom Fields” each ticked.

Now, after you’ve written your post (it doesn’t work on pages, just posts) and decided you want this post featured in the slider, do the following…

This is all done while you’re in the “Add New Post” window

              1. Get your image ready – it needs to be 600w x 337h (pixels)
              2. Load your image through left navigation media item
              3. Go below the post box  to ‘Custom Fields’ and add
