Marketing To The Calendar

I was just looking at a National Days Calendar.

    Who makes these up?

    Seriously?!

There are some that have a worthwhile purpose. They serve to remind us of the importance of certain things, people or events. But National Dress Up Your Pets Day? I guess some just serve to remind us to have fun!

The question for a marketer is, how many of these dates do you include in your marketing calendar?

You do have a marketing, plan and calendar, yes? You know, that slim document that tells you what you’ll promote and how throughout the year.

New Year’s Day, Easter, Mothers Day etc are all common events that can inform your marketing. Ever heard of Cyber Monday? Knowing that it occurs gives you a milestone. If you want to promote a product for say Black Friday, you will need to have a chart of events that need to happen beforehand to be ableRead More »Marketing To The Calendar

How Much Do You Repurpose Content?

I’ve just been going through my files and found a bunch of product I had created … and forgot about!

IN thinking about my content I also realised I pretty much don’t follow my own advice, embarrassingly enough.

When I reflect on what I produce I use it maybe one o three times each in different platforms. Usually it will be a blog post and maybe I’ll then repurpose that as a tweet or a Facebook post and perhaps a graphic for Pinterest.

My reflection also made me realise I’d abandoned my editorial calendar and had taken to spontaneous posting both in terms of content and timing.

      Not clever.

      Not recommended.

      Dumb.

So, I am starting to think about Angel reinstituting my editorial calendar as well as building into it a repurposing checklist. Of course, I won’t just think about it, I will schedule in to do it … soon!

      Writing Your eBook Well

Writing an eBook can be daunting.

I know: I hesitated for some time. I used pre-written content for which had I had rights to break into writing my first ebook. It wasn’t wholly satisfying – I spent more time making it sound like me and getting the content right than it would have taken to have written one myself in the first place!

One thing that stopped me and others it seems is how to format an eBook and how to structure the all important call to action and ensure links back to you.

I like what John White has to say here:

“The about-page is rather busy and contains seven hyperlinks, but I tried to ensure that each of them would stand out at a glance:

        • a link to my online portfolio
        • a link to this blog
        • a SurveyMonkey link on which to harvest reader feedback
        • my e-mail address
        • a RetweetThis link
        • a link to my LinkedIn profile

Some people are talented and disciplined and manage to create quality works which become publishing successes. Many of us languish.
