How to Start

Build Your List. Simple. Easy.

Yep. Everyone tells you it’s simple and easy to build a list. So let’s find out if it’s true.

There are many ways you can build a list.

    1. you can buy a list (but how do you know those people have agreed to be ‘sold’, in other words you better make sure they optin to you or you could find yourself in breach of spam laws).
    2. you can do a deal with someone else and cross promote each other to each other’s list (so how do you do that if you don’t have one? hmmmm)
    3. you can agree to do a co-registration thing where when people sign up to one person’s list they end up on other people’s list as well (now I know how my inbox has been swelling)
    4. you can put a product into oneRead More »Build Your List. Simple. Easy.

    Hundreds of Blog Topic Ideas

      blog-ideas

Blogging is brilliant fun. It’s useful and informative and fills a creative void for many bloggers. But there are times when the well runs dry. Or maybe you’re just staring out and just wondering what you could possibly write about.

In preparation for my editorial calendar this year I searched online for what people have suggested as blog topics. Many are very specific; some a quite general; all stimulate ideas on topics for my blogs and with a little lateral thinking there is no reason why you couldn’t find 12 blog posts – one for each month of the year. Or 52 blog posts – one for each week. Or even 365 blog posts – one a day!

Here are 10 posts to titillate your brain’s creative juices. Don’t sit down and read each one. Follow my 5 minute plan:

      1. Go to a few listed sites
      2. Scan the ideas
      3. Pick the ones that jump out atRead More »Hundreds of Blog Topic Ideas

          How To Write Better

Ok so here’s the deal. I’m checking out this new gizmo to really motivate the writing habit.

See, people on forums and blogs that I read are invariably fessing up about the fact that they know they have to write / love to write / want to write but just don’t do it. For whatever reason.

It could be that ‘blank sheet = blank mind’ kind of thing.

Or maybe they have so many ideas popping into their head they don’t know where to start.

For some it’s a matter of not feeling worthy ‘but so many people have written about this before and so much better, what have I got to contribute, who’d want to hear me say it” or some other variation of self doubt.

The whole point being that either people then procrastinate before actually getting the writingRead More »How To Write Better

How To Write Your Book: Eat An Elephant (Pt 1)

“They” always say that to eat an elephant, take one bite at a time.

              Whoever eats elephants anyway?

The principle holds true, though. If you have a big hairy task in front of you that seems onerous and huge, start somewhere and start small.

So it is with writing a  book.

1-day-ill-write-a-book Here’s a method for getting it done in a relatively painless manner.

              1. Decide on your overall theme or overriding topic
              2. Break that up into a series of smaller themes or sub-topics
              3. Pick one sub-topic you know enough about or research one to gather information
              4. Write 10 – 20 pages on that sub-topic. That’s 3000-6000 words, give or take. Oh, and try to write it in ONE sitting. Clear your desk, your mind and your computer screen. DedicateRead More »How To Write Your Book: Eat An Elephant (Pt 1)
