It wasn’t that difficult, after all.<\/p>\n
Facing a four and a half hour drive during the day annoys me.<\/p>\n
Not the driving itself: the lack of productivity involved is what gets me. There’s not a lot you can do when your hands are glued to the steering wheel and you need to be alert and focused.<\/p>\n
Or is there?<\/p>\n
About an hour into the drive, when I’d exhausted the phone calls I needed to make (thank you Siri!), it struck me…<\/p>\n
I’d seen a video by Peng Joon who was tied to his car for an hour or so driving to a conference. So he rigged up his equipment and punched out a one hour video during the drive.<\/p>\n
Inspired by that, I plugged my iPhone into the phone holder on the windscreen, clicked on the video and switched the lens to record from the front.<\/p>\n
Beautiful!<\/p>\n
I was now in production mode!<\/p>\n
A couple of minutes to gather my thoughts, and I punched out a series of 15 videos.<\/p>\n
I was stoked! Thanks to learning, modeling and taking action I now have a range of videos to use – and all because I made use of ‘unproductive’ time.<\/p>\n
Now these are not polished videos. The sound is ordinary, the lighting varies from ok to terrible and I wasn’t as prepared as I’d like to be in terms of content and structure.<\/p>\n
But you know what?<\/p>\n
I don’t care!<\/p>\n
I’ve got 15 videos I would not have had otherwise.<\/p>\n
If you’ve always got a smartphone with you, you’ve always got the opportunity to be productive.<\/p>\n
I’m even producing this blog post using an app on the phone late at night.<\/p>\n
Think about the dead spots in your day. Can you pop out a 1-minute audio message to send to your list? Can you record s short video with a lesson for your blog? Can you scribble out a short blog post when the inspiration hits you?<\/p>\n
