    CUSTOMISING WEBFOLIO THEME – 2

Webfolio is a free wordpress theme but it’s instructions aleave a little to be desired in parts. As I discover things I am writing them up here for others to benefit.

The Slider on the Front page

Firstly, make sure you have the right features turned on. In WordPress go over to the top right of your screen and you’ll see “Screen Options”.  Make sure you have “Featured Image”, “Excerpt” and Custom Fields” each ticked.

Now, after you’ve written your post (it doesn’t work on pages, just posts) and decided you want this post featured in the slider, do the following…

This is all done while you’re in the “Add New Post” window

      1. Get your image ready – it needs to be 600w x 337h (pixels)
      2. Load your image through left navigation media item

      Have You Planned For 2014?

A few days ago I created this meme. [My nephew loves Buzz so that image captured my attention :)] In the corporate world, I plan at least 3 months ahead. The other day I realised I hadn’t planned for next year in terms of my online business – and it was less than 6 weeks away! By then, I will be available more to build my internet presence and income so I need to get things underway. How about you?

Get a Free Book From A Cool Guy

I love Scott Ginsberg. He’s that ‘nametag’ guy and he’s refreshingly real. You can grab a copy of his latest publication from the link below. It’s called The Nametag Principle and it’s got a year’s full of ideas you can use. http://esbjournal.com/2011/11/grab-scott-ginsbergs-new-book-for-free/ Oops – sorry, you’re too late 🙁 But, you CAN go here and get all of his books for free – legit. Hey – so the right thing – if you download it, spread the word.

          Access Denied in Windows 7

Like a lot of people, I have found the security setting in Windows 7 incredibly frustrating. For example, I copied a lot of my data across to an external HDD to free up disk space and was always being told I had no permission to do anything with the files after that move. Each time I wanted to do something I had to go through the change ownership tedium each time.

Tons of posts abound about how to fix it but nothing worked – and I got nervous about downloading fix files and changing host files.

Then I learned one little trick in this post that made life a lot easier – tick the box that starts “replace” in the bottom left corner of the final screen. By doing that. you have permission for the entire folder. I kept changing permission for the folder to delete an old hotfixinstaller folder but it wouldRead More »Access Denied in Windows 7

            Writing Media Releases

Dale Beaumont gives some top ideas on how to find content that appeals to newsmakers so you can get some PR for you business or product or service. Here is my summary followed by his video.

              1. New eg new report reveals, new legislation and how to deal with it, what is new that you have done
              2. Successful eg what has been successful about what you’ve done eg nominated for an award, eg local author launches book in panama
              3. Story behind the story eg Justin Herald started multi mill business with $50 borrowed from brother, eg turning points, life changing experiences, etc
              4. Statistics – media love stats so get hold of them, don’t need to be own surveys – use others results and bring them to light
              5. Perfect Timing – things you know are coming up can be timed with events, eg increase in interest rates if you’re a mortgage broker, travel warning if you’re a travelRead More »Writing Media Releases
